Senior Affordable Housing Project

Community leaders joined with the Snohomish Affordable Housing Group (SAHG) on March 25 to break ground for construction of the new 21-unit Senior Affordable Housing Project adjacent to the new Snohomish Senior Center.

The project will construct 21 one- and two-bedroom apartments that will be rented at below market rates to low-income seniors. As the project sits adjacent to the new Snohomish Senior Center, it will also provide easy walking distance for its residents to the programs, meals, and activities at the new Center.

Both the Senior Center and the affordable housing apartment project are on City-owned land being leased by the City Council to these organizations for $1 per year.

The senior apartments, once completed, will push the number of affordable units built by SAHG to more than 100 units within Snohomish.

Time to Take off Studded Tires
An encouraging weather forecast means that WSDOT will not extend the deadline for removing studded tires.

The forecast for the first weeks of April shows favorable weather conditions and a small chance of snow and ice.

Drivers have until Tuesday, March 31 to remove studded tires from their vehicles. Troopers of the Washington State Patrol will enforce a $124 fine for those who use studded tires after the deadline.

Violators are very likely to be caught because troopers need only listen for the distinctive noise of studs grinding on pavement. For more information, visit: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/winter/studtire.htm.
